Birla Group: Social Activities
The Birla
family has not just concentrated on building an industrial empire; they
are probably the largest philanthropic group in India. Over the years,
the Birla Group has been involved in recreation and religious centers,
museums, planetariums, art galleries and rural development programmes.
They are also a great patron of Indian art and culture.
The Birla family has contributed extensively to education and research.
The prestigious Birla Institute of Technology at Pilani is recognized
as the premier institute of learning. From this institute, more than
1000 students graduate each year. Over 100,000 youngsters are today
studying in schools and colleges that are run by the Birla Group all
over the country.
The
Birla temples in many cities such as Delhi; Calcutta and Hyderabad are famous
tourist attractions where thousands of tourists and locals come to pay their obeisance
and seek comfort and solace.
Mr. G.D.Birla had a keen interest in improving the health care services
in India. Today, the Birla Trusts look after several hospitals and sanatoriums
all over India. The hospitals are equipped with the latest facilities and provide top quality medical care. Many of the patients
come from the underprivileged sections of the society.
